A PRACTICAL QR GUIDE

QR codes for SMS Messages

Make it easier to compose a text to a public contact number. Use an optional message as a prompt rather than pretending the scan completes a request.

Static: A SMSTO payload can open the messaging app directly.

What to put behind the code

An international phone number and a short, nonsensitive starting message.

Print for the place it will live

Starting size: 2.5 × 2.5 cm. This is a starting point, not a scanning guarantee. Print for a close handheld scan beside the number.

Use a plain contact panel without folds or staples. Keep the four-module quiet zone intact and use dark modules on a light background. Read the print-size guide.

Where to place it

  • Appointment card
  • Service information sheet
  • Reception notice

Mistakes to avoid

  • Claiming the message was already sent
  • Hiding possible carrier charges
  • Omitting an international dialling code

Before committing to a print run

Print a proof on the final material. Scan it with more than one phone, from the normal viewing position. Check the opened destination while signed out and confirm it leads to the intended page or action. A readable fallback address or contact detail helps visitors who cannot scan.

Questions about sms messages

Can scanning cause a text charge?
Opening a draft does not send it. Sending may incur the visitor’s normal carrier charges.
What should I test before printing?
Scan the final sms messages artwork on more than one phone. Check the destination or imported details, the real viewing distance and the final printed surface.
