A PRACTICAL QR GUIDE

QR codes for Business Cards

A business card has very little space for a long biography. Send a new contact to one page containing your current role, work and preferred way to get in touch.

Dynamic: Your role and portfolio may change while old cards remain in circulation.

What to put behind the code

A personal landing page with contact details and a clearly labelled save-contact link.

Print for the place it will live

Starting size: 2 × 2 cm. This is a starting point, not a scanning guarantee. Scan at normal handheld reading distance.

Leave a plain white panel on uncoated card rather than using foil or embossing on modules. Keep the four-module quiet zone intact and use dark modules on a light background. Read the print-size guide.

Where to place it

  • Back of card next to your name
  • Lower corner of a plain card face
  • Contact panel on a digital card

Mistakes to avoid

  • Shrinking below the printer’s reliable detail
  • Encoding a large biography directly
  • Using a QR code instead of readable contact details

Before committing to a print run

Print a proof on the final material. Scan it with more than one phone, from the normal viewing position. Check the opened destination while signed out and confirm it leads to the intended page or action. A readable fallback address or contact detail helps visitors who cannot scan.

Questions about business cards

Should I use a vCard instead?
A static vCard can save contact details without a website. It cannot update details already saved on someone’s phone.
What should I test before printing?
Scan the final business cards artwork on more than one phone. Check the destination or imported details, the real viewing distance and the final printed surface.
